Bible Study

WHITEHEAD BIBLE STUDY – Weekly Bible Study, Church Hall,Tuesdays 8pm

The Bible Study sessions follow the Methodist Church in Ireland’s Lectionaries which are printed monthly in the Methodist Newsletter. Basically, the Lectionaries are a system for organising Bible readings to be used in worship to provide congregations with a good ‘spread’ of Bible passages rather than using the same few favourite ones over and over again. (The Revised Common Lectionary [RCL] on Wikipedia is an intro to RCL.)

Fellowship/Prayer Hour At Whitehead

Currently there is no Bible Study.  Instead, a Fellowship/Prayer Hour will be held on a Tuesday evening at 8pm in the Methodist Church – come when you can, go when you must.

ISLANDMAGEE BIBLE STUDY – Joint Bible Study with 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian Church, Wednesdays, 7.30pm

This is currently held in 2nd Islandmagee Manse at Low Road, facilitated by Rev David Chapman.

Most of the winter the Joint Bible Study with 2nd Islandmagee Presbyterian read and discussed the Book of Acts. Three weeks ago (beginning of February) it was decided to take part in the “Community Bible Experience” for 8 weeks.

The idea behind this is to encourage people to read the Bible every day and hopefully to cover all of the New Testament. The Bible used is the New International Version with divisions into chapters and numbering of verses omitted so that it can be read like a book. A weekly reading plan is laid out and during the meetings the group discusses the following five questions under the guidance of Rev David Chapman:

  • What’s something you noticed for the first time?
  • What questions do you have?
  • Was there anything that bothered you?
  • What did you learn about loving God?
  • What did you learn about loving others?
