Mr Greg Power, THP Construction, hands over the keys of new Hall to Miss Vera Girvan

Friday 20 May 2016 was special day for Whitehead Methodist Church because that morning the keys of the new Dobson-Girvan Hall project were presented to Miss Vera Girvan by the builder and architect. The congregation are all looking forward very much to the opportunities the new buildings will give them for their work in the church and in the community.

A new church hall has been dreamt about for many years and it hardly seemed possible that congregation would ever have it. But, it has been finished and they thanked God for the hard work of so many people and for every bodies  generosity since the fundraising began in 2013 to enable them to complete this project over the last twelve months.

Getting the keys doesn’t mean that the work is all done now because they still need to work to pay off a loan from the Property Board of the Methodist Church over the next five years. This will be just as much of a challenge as getting the project started so the Building Fund envelopes will still be available and opportunities for paying in to the Building Fund by standing orders will remain. But the Dobson-Girvan hall is actually out there, it can now seen, used, and enjoy enjoyed.

All being well, the first use of the hall will be on Saturday 4 June when the church’s Men’s Group Coffee Morning and Sale will take place from 10.30 til 3pm – or until everything is sold. Download a poster…

The Dobson-Girvan Hall may be attached to the Methodist Church but it doesn’t stop there. It is in the centre of Whitehead and it is hoped that it will have an important role to play in outreach to the community. Indeed the following week, on Sunday 12 June, the church will be hosting the Community Big Lunch on the church lawn.
