Teachers Complete Child Safety Training

The Sunday School at Whitehead Methodist Church caters for between ten and fifteen children from the age of 4 to 12. Seven of the teachers and assistants have recently completed a “Child Protection” course run by the Irish Methodist Youth and Children’s Department. This is a requirement for any organisation which runs a Sunday school or any other event under the auspices of the Methodist Church in Ireland.

The course covered such things as awareness of signs of abuse, reporting procedures and how to deal with any concerns a teacher might have. The most important lesson we learned was that, if you have a concern, doing nothing is not an option.

On Sunday 8 June the teachers were presented with their certificates at church and were warmly congratulated by Rev Gary Millar.
